Pleiades occultation

The Warthog

Recommended Posts

I am planning to be outside at midnight when the moon starts occulting the Pleiades (Canadian Eastern Time) and I have noticed that the moon is quite bright, and the Pleiades aren't. The bright limb of the Moon will be occulting the Pleiades, so I am afraid I may not really see anything. I am planning to use my refractor, and to put a pale yellow filter on it to cut down the light transmission a bit, and remove the violet fringe, but does anyone have any advice to maximize my chances of seeing much in these conditions? (If it ain't cloudy?)
