Imaging with Meade LX90

Recommended Posts

Hi, I wonder if someone can give me a little advice.

For some time now I've been doing web-cam imaging with a Meade LX90 8"SCT in a form mount. I'm considering doing some deep sky photography with a Canon EOS 300D. I seem to have two options:

a) attach the camera to the rear of the telescope using a T-bar

:) attach it piggyback on the top of the telescope with an accessory bar and camera mount. I would use a 150 Sigma macro lens for this.

My concern is the weight of the camera (3.5 lbs with lens). Is there any risk of damaging the gears or motor of the telescope? What can be done to overcome problems?

Many thanks for any advice.

You just need to make sure the tube is well balanced. You'll probably need to add some weight towards the front - wrist weights/ gaffa tape???

The drive gear will certainly handle quite a load, providing everything is reasonably balanced.
