Looks like my camera is still ok then and it's just the way the E-500 drives the sensor is quite noisy. Switching down to ISO 800 and shortening the exposure I get similar (when uncooled):

Last lot of test images (realised the power supply couldn't provide the necessary current the TEC was drawing and dropping the voltage). A beefier power supply got me down to -20 :-)

I was wondering how did the project ended up. I want to go through the same process with an old E-300 and I have a few questions if you don't mind me asking.
