Calculating an images ADU

Hello

Just curious how does one go about obtaining this data from a RAW image, specifically from a Canon DSLR .CR2?

Will any of this s/w do the trick and how? > PS CS3, Canon's DPP.

I also have time limited copies of MaximDL 5, IP 3.82 but would prefer either a free utility or one I already have paid for!

Not quite sure what you mean? The ADU value is just the number that you get in the image file (tiff, jpeg whatever). DPP will indeed convert Canon RAW into tiff or jpeg if that is what you are after.

If you mean the raw values straight from the chip, before bayer matrix interpolation, then that is a very good question, to which I would like an answer too!
