Hi Susan - some ideas - you may find that your local astro soc holds "meetings for newbies" occasionally - ours does from time to time offering tips and advice on various aspects of astronomy. A lot goes on in the field where groups have "dark site" meetings and most folk you find there will be willing to help. Also you could spend a w/e at a star party where you'll get all the help you need.

Meantime - any questions can be posted in the appropriate sections of this forum and someone will be sure to answer.

Welcome to the group :)

Hi Susan,

A warm welcome to SGL. :)

There are Astronomical Societies all over the UK, a quick google should show some near you.

Feel free to ask any questions you have, a more newbie friendly bunch is harder to imagine!

There will be a few astronomy courses for beginners but what is it that you want?

A course I attended covered the solar system, meteorites, our milky way, galaxies, the sun. What it did not cover was using a telescope.

If you want to learn how to use a scope I suggest that you look to a local atronomy club and ask what they have to offer.
