Did I Split Alnitak?

Had a go at splitting Alnitak tonight, was likr a kid in a toffee shop tonight as it was so clear and beautiful outside, we saw a MINIMUM of 4 satellites, also at least two meteorites, the satellites were naked eye, the comets just shot past the view in 32mm panaview. Anyway, after doing orion neb in the panaview, i moved up to Alnitak, obviously in the 32mm panaview it was just one big star, but bumping up using my 8mm hyperion and then adding the fine tuning rings we got to where is looked something like a figure of eight they were so close, moving in and out of focus a little made the odd shape more prominent, is what i got to be expected with my scope or should i be able? to split it better?
