Televue 40mm Plossl EP and it's LER....

Recommended Posts

I've owned one for a short time and I don't wear glasses. It's a nice sharp eyepiece although the FoV is limited to 43 degrees as are all 40mm 1.25" format eyepieces. It has long eye relief which is why it's suitable for spectacle wearers but I found it comfortable as well.

It's main drawbacks IMHO are i) it's far from par-focal with many other eyepieces (including all the other TV plossls) which means major re-focussing and ii) the 32mm plossl shows the same amount of sky at a higher magnification so the the background sky tends to be darker = more contrast on DSO's

In the end I found the views through the 32mm more satisfying so I sold the 40mm.
