Police, gunfire and observing

As Saturday was clear we (Dave, Jon, Ian and myself) had a repeat group observing session on Salisbury Plain. We met up under a cloudy sky, set the kit up and waited for forcast vlear skies. As they slowly cleared we began observing only to have another car pull into the car park with headlights on. Out came two people wearing hi-vis jackets. It was the police wondering what was going on. We showed them Jupiter and after a few mins chat they left reassured that, although mad, we weren't up to no good.

Back to observing but then there was the eerie sound of firing from further up the plain. We waited a la saving private Ryan but after a few mins it died away.

So all in all an interesting observing session. Not only did we enjoy some great dso's and Jupiter but we felt part of the local community!
