Tilting AZ Mounts

Recommended Posts

Dear All,

I have been using my Merlin multi-function mount for a while with both my Skymax 127 and APO 66 refractor. It's main limitation with either of my scopes is that I can't get a much steeper 'angle' than 60 degrees. Whilst this is fine for moon and planets, I would sometimes like to go higher for general viewing. Does anybody know if the mount can be tilted back and still work?

What I mean is, could it be tlilted back by 20 degrees, then do the usual set up for tracking? I notice SW now offer a GOTO version of this scope. Does anyone know if this could be tilted in a similar fashion before aligning with stars. I suppose what I am asking is does tilting an AZ mount affect its auto-tracking/GOTO capabilities?

Thanks,

Nick
