The Warthog
The Moon surprised me tonight. As I gave up on collimating the secondary, I looked up to see a thin crescent well above the horizon, just after sunset, so I popped in an eyepiece and looked at it awhile. Stayed with it long enough to watch a nice crater witha central peak resolve itself as the sun crept across the surface. I am pretty sure that was Langrenus. Would have been a nice subject for a sketch, but someone has hidden my drawing instruments. They are out to get me.We are in a 40 degree heat wave at present, and the skies are mag 2 with the smog. I watched Jupiter for a while, too. Can't make out much on the surface. Even though I know the GRS is present, I can't make it out. I will be at a nice dark sky site in three or four weeks, so I may do better then.
