Would a digital compass be useful with a dob?

Recommended Posts

Hi to all,

I have seen an advert for a Bresser Digital Compass and wondered if anyone has used one before. The man on the phone said that he didnt think it was accurate enough for astronomy purposes (i.e that it gave directions such as 'SW' but not bearings like '251 degrees'). I'm not so sure but I cant find any specifications.

I was thinking of buying one to help me point my skyliner 250px in the right direction. I hoped that (combined with the wixey which I own) that i'd be able to get within a couple of degrees of a target.

Failing that, does anyone have info on where I can get 360 degree setting circles for the dob base?

Thanks

Mike-H
