Astromatry Books

Recommended Posts

Ive recently been observing with a friend and he owns a book which i found very useful for finding M objects, NCG objects, etc. The book was Skywatching by David Levy, I'm now after getting a book similar to it, i.e. one that has maps for the position of interesting objects within a constellation.

I've read that Turn Left At Orion is a really good book, however I've read that it is aimed at people with small telscopes (~4 inch). Does it have maps of the constellations with the position of all the M objects? Basically will it help me star hop around the sky to get to all the Ms?

If you could recomend one book to buy which would it be?

Thanks for your help.

Hi JD,

I'm not sure if it's exactly what you are looking for but the best Messier book I've got/read is "The Messier Objects" by Stephen O'Meara. I gives a lot of background detail about the objects which is the kind of thing I like.

Yeah ive seen that one and i think i might have to have a look at it. I guess im looking for a book that has maps of the constellations and M objects, to allow me to star hop. Some maps ive seen ahev too much detail and i fin it hard to star hop using them.
