Dark nebulae: The seahorse

Recommended Posts

I was intrigued to search out some dark nebulae for a change and Barnard 150 or the Seahorse is very well placed at the moment, being almost directly overhead in the southern UK. Tricky thing with dark nebulae is that unlike emission nebulae, mitigating light pollution with filters is difficult if not impossible, so you need a reasonably dark site. This image was captured around the Exmoor Dark Sky Reserve which is pretty dark by UK standards. 90mm ED apo. Combination of 6 separate 120s guided exposures at ISO 1000 on a Sony A7s. It's not nearly as spectacular as some images of the Seahorse I've seen, but I was pretty pleased to capture it at all from the UK with the gear I have!

Nice little galaxy down bottom left too, good work 👍🏼. I’m not too far from exmoor , where about do you go to set up?

Thanks Craig :) We live on the edge of Exmoor so this is shot from home. Somewhere like Webbers Post is about half a magnitude darker but not quite so convenient!
