Megrez 90 Vs technosky 102ed

Are you looking for something "easier" to take outside (less stress on the mind, smaller, lighter)? I know the 102 although not massive in refractor terms, is significantly larger than say a 90mm and below.

I ask because likely nothing below the 102 will "match" it, you'll still get very good views through a smaller scope, but I'm wondering what you're trying to gain.

Any other of the smaller WO scopes will do if you're simply looking to lighten the load with good optics Z61/Z71. Or if you're after a good price maybe the Askar 71F, I've been looking at it a while but it's too similar to my Z61.

That's a very good question ELP.  I guess I'm trying to get something that will mean I don't need to get another scope in order to gain a bit more flexibility.  The Megrez 90 seems to occupy a sweet spot in terms of size and quality of optics in that it has a reasonably large aperture whilst also being much more portable than the 102ED.  The downside to my position is that the 102ED has exceptional optics and literally everything else about it is high quality.  Given the Megrez is smaller and faster I'll have to give something in terms of the view, I just don't know if it'll be a deal breaker or if I'll even notice.

I actually got authorisation from my partner to get a small scope (Either the Askar 71f or the Altair Ascent 70) but being realistic and having time to think I don't think that the amount it would get used would justify it as a separate scope.

@Shed9I suspect you are right.  With any luck someone on here has picked it up and gotten good use out of it.  It wasn't meant to be in this case, but I'll keep my ear to the ground and who knows.

If you're referring to imaging you can always reduce the 102. I know what you mean about the size of the 102, for me I rarely use it, mostly because my other setups fit into their own bags so they're usually one bag and out. The 102 requires reorganising of stuff and at least two bags out (when you're talking at least 10Kg bags you'll know what I mean).

I managed to get a flattener and a reducer for the 102ED.  I'll be testing them out with some EAA next time off.   I remember on another post I did a while ago struggling to find suitable targets, but I found a list I did for the 130PDS and they have similar enough focal lengths that it'll work.  Really excited to try it out.
