Powermate barrels

Can anyone shed any light on the different Powermate barrels i.e. why one type has an undercut and the other doesn't?

Just curious.

As far as I can tell the original versions had the straight nosepiece barrels, whereas the new ones have the under cut design.

Easy way to tell: the new ones separate to allow the use of the T -thread adaptor!
