M51 on DIY rig - final version

Recommended Posts

Happy to present the finished version of M51 which, while not exceptional compared to some images we see here, makes me both happy and proud because it is the first project I finish that is 100% done with my rebuilt onstep mount (on diy pier with self modded camera and so forth), after the catastrophic failure of my CG5-GT.  I was able yesterday night to add about 90mins of exposure which greatly improved the background and the fine details and I tried to go for a processing that would not be outrageously forced.

Total: 3H45mins of exposure (about 100 subs) on 130PDS +  450D modded.
Processed on freewares only (DSS, GraXpert, Darktable, Gimp)

The only advice I would give here is to pull the green curve down a little, and it should let those blues, yellows and browns in the galaxy shine!

Yes, maybe you are right there. There is a green tint that appears only on one of my screens, it looks more blue on the other ones 🤓
