Astro Club Project Ideas?

I was considering a project that might be interesting for our local Astro Soc and that everyone could participate in. Repeating Ole Roemer's experiment to measure the speed of light seems to fit the bill for something that most people could contribute to.  But what would you suggest? Needs to be something that doesn't require imaging and could be done even by someone with binos.

Measuring the length of the sidereal day?

Measure distance from Earth to Moon using a broomstick and 2 pence. Similar triangles and ratios.

How about variable star observations?  Maybe pick one or two to concentrate effort on?  Reports could be sent to BAA or AAVSO.
