SW 102T refractor plus Crayford weight?

Recommended Posts

I'm considering buying a SkyWatcher 102T (achro) and then adding the SW 2-speed Crayford focuser as an upgrade.  I've seen the 102 weight listed as 3kg.  Based on the bulk of the Crayford, I'm thinking it must be at least 2 kg for a total of 5 kg without finder, diagonal, etc.  5 kg would be oat n the very upper limit of what my current mounts can handle acceptably.

Anybody know what a 102T with Crayford upgrade actually weighs?  Thanks!

As nobody knowledgeable has replied, you will have to put up with my response🤣

I have swapped a few focussers between scopes, but not this particular scope.
In general, there isn't a lot of weight difference from single to two speed, or Crayford to R&P, if they are from the same manufacturer for the same scope range.
It is the weight difference, not absolute weight that you are thinking about. So I don't think you need to worry.

If you were asking about upgrading a cheap focusser to a posh Moolite, or Baader steeltrack, that would be a different question.

Just seen this thread, sorry!

My ST102 plus Crawford weighs in at 3.35kg with rings and vixen dovetail. Adding 2" StellaMira diagonal brings it up to 3.7kg.

Overall weight should not be a problem for you then but I can tell you that adding the Crayford does make the rig pretty stern heavy, especially with a 2" diagonal and EP, as I have.!

Good luck.
