June full moon and the Bell Harry Tower.

Recommended Posts

Took this picture of the June full moon (a not-too-super supermoon) earlier this evening. A single photo with my Canon 77D and a standard 18-55 mm lens; f/5.0, exposure 1/16 s, ISO 400. The Cathedral runs East to West, so the moon was really rising outside the frame, to the left of the apse. I used an open window to place its reflection above the roof. It works, I think. I took more photos, but they will need some proper processing.

Just adding two more pictures of the same night. They took longer to process because they are double exposure shots and I had to combine them using layers in PS. The first one shows the moon rising behind the Corona (crown) or East chapel in the Cathedral. Quite becoming now that we are commemorating the 850th anniversary of the murder of Thomas Becket. The Corona tower has a symbolic circular cross-section and was built to enshrine the severed crown of Becket's skull. It was completed in 1184, shortly after the assassination, so this view of the moon has been possible for the last eight centuries. The arch belongs to the ruins of the old Infirmary.

The second picture is a general shot from Green Court in the North side of the Cathedral.
