Vintage Swift 1000mm (d: 77mm) model 831

Recommended Posts

Sorry first post here, just looking for some advice really. I’ve got the opportunity to pick up a Swift Model 831 for £40. I’m not sure how great it is optically (certainly some scratches to the paint on the main tube assembly). Does this represent something worth taking a stab at? Currently I’m using a Canon 6D and a 400mm 5.6 L series lens. Would I even be able to get a suitable adapter to fit the DSLR to this refractor?

Swift were very good back in the day, and for £40 I'd grab it and run, providing the lens is in good condition. I'm not sure its an ideal imaging scope though, but visually it should be very pleasing. Swift used Japanese optics, and if I'm right, they are somehow linked to Takahashi.
