So just looking at my lovely  refractor and I'm now stumped, what is this bit as it won't go anywhere.

I think is for attaching a camera to the tube rings should you wish. Normally sits at the top of the tube rings.

Great, and Thank you.  Just have to wait now for a Mount to really enjoy the viewing.

It is good practice to have bolts protruding down from the front and back of the dovetail bar when you get your mount. They will stop the dovetail slipping down through the clamp on the mount (known as the saddle plate). This is a well proven accident!!!
