Synscan sluggish to slew after upgrading Android

Hello all,

posting this here as I've had no luck so far with Skywatcher support.

I have a Star Discovery mount with built-in wifi, and I've been using Synscan successfully under Android 8 for several months.

I recently bought a new phone running Android 10 and tried to use Synscan Pro. It runs, but the mount responds erratically to slew commands from the app buttons.
Occasionally it responds immediately and correctly to a press. Sometimes it doesn’t respond at all. But most often, there is a “lag” in responding to the app key presses: if a key is pressed, the mount may not respond for a second or so. When the key is released, the mount may also continue to move for a short time afterwards, causing an “overshoot”.

The support desk suggested I update to the latest version (

1.19.12)

of Synscan from their website (it's apparently unavailable on the Google app store for "technical reasons"; I think it's disturbing that users are expected to sideload apps). This made no difference to the behaviour under Android 10, but I also loaded it onto my old phone, and it still works fine under Android 8.

Has anyone else experienced these sort of problems running Synscan under Android 10 or 11?

Answering my own question, in case this is relevant to anyone else.

My phone was just updated over the air to Android 11, and the problem went away.
Either it's an issue with 10 but not 11, or there was something about the configuration that was reset in the update process.
