How do I get all that detail in the Histogram view in Siril

Recommended Posts

Newbie, so any help would be gratefully received!

Trying to stack images in SiriL on a Mac, and when I click on Histogram view there is clearly a detailed image of The Hercules cluster buried in there somewhere, but it all disappears in the linear view.

How do I extract the good stuff?

Shooting 30\60 short exposure images (15-20 sec) on a Sony a6000, btw.

Hi

To get a rough idea of what's there:

Image Processing -> Histogram Transformation -> Apply autostretch algorithm to image

Then go back and try the -same menu- Asinh Transformation

Then a combination of the two.

Then... etc. etc. You'll soon get the hang of it.

The essence of astrophotography is the modifying of the linear view into the 'stretched' view. That's really what most image processing is about. There is no quick explanation of how to go about this because every image is different and, often, the best images combine different stretches.
