Moon Photography on a tight budget.

Recommended Posts

Here is my Moon setup on a tight budget.

Celestron C70 Mini  Mak Spotting Scope. A six year old Samsung galaxy J3 with a basic mobile phone holder. A cardboard tube from kitchen foil complete with elastic bands as a finderscope. All I need now is the moon and it’s out tonight with a 8% waxing crescent and all being well clear skies....1C44DEB4-3714-4DEF-B6C0-7DB11C1E9F67.thumb.jpeg.617b65ebeade11205e5a317d1c0c15c1.jpeg

Looking forward to seeing the Lunar images.

Below is an image of the Montes Appenius area of the Moon using my Meade ETX105, (before the 're-mod'), a 20mm Plossl, eyepiece projection unit and a 2.1 mega-pixel compact digital camera.

Later that same evening, the 'cheap' dovetail bar under my ETX105 snapped on the mount and damaged the rear plastic flip-mirror/balance weight enclosure. Fortunately it was on grass and I did not have the camera, etc., attached to it at the time. The image below shows my 're-modded' ETX105, (after I designed the 'backplate' and found a local engineering workshop to make it), from seeing them from a site/business that makes them. Unfortunately they only make them for the ETX90 & ETX125.

Your set up looks a little bit more advanced than mine but we all have to start somewhere. I’ll compose some lunar images over the next few phases of the moon and post some results.

The Montes Appenius range was one of the first things that I noticed with my new scope.

This is one image that I took with my C70 and Samsung phone last month even though the image is a bit soft  I’m quite surprised at the amount of detail I have got with the stock zoom lens. I have now purchased some plossl  eyepieces and it will be interesting to see the quality of the images that I can get.A7973EE2-EAB6-455F-9D37-65F5A22E3525.thumb.jpeg.9d881addcdcbe8e540427f0a1f647205.jpeg

I think zoom e/p's do soften images a little as your image shows; but it does look good. :icon_salut:

I no longer have the EQ mount as I now use these two mounts...
