SkyProdigy 70 firmware updates advice

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am a relative novice and this is my first post here. I have been using a SkyProdigy 70 very happily for a couple of years and was recently doing some reading and found that there is newer firmware out there, so I made myself a cable, downloaded the CFM software and connected to the scope with relatively little drama. The software does it's thing, downloads all the latest bits and pieces but when it is finished and I click "Update" it tell me everything is up to date, which I don't believe.

On the handset when I click Menu/Utilities/Version it says that Starsense HC is 01.03.1140 from May 20, 2011, the camera is 01.01.1123 and the Motor Control v6.16.

I have read that certain models aren't upgradeable but haven't come across any information on precisely which ones. It would be disappointing were this a very old model having bought it new less than three years ago.

Can anyone enlighten me and, hopefully, help me get it upgraded to a newer firmware?

Marc

Looking here  http://software.celestron.com/updates/CFM/  there does not appear to be any firmware updates, where did you read that there was and what if any are the benefits? The list could be out of date in which case you could ask at Team Celestron http://teamcelestron.com to check. That site though is for firmware testing rather than general support but as its firmware your asking about Derik will probably advise.

Thank you for responding. I was looking here http://software.celestron.com/updates/CFM/CFM/Firmware_Revision_History.pdf which led me to think that there have been regular updates to the handset software, but I am perfectly happy to be wrong. I just saw 2011 on my handset and assumed it was way out of date. I might do as you suggest and check, however.

OK I think your version of Starsense is the earlier built in version which may not be upgradeable, that document you link to lists the Starsense accessory which is an add on for Celestron mounts. Your very probably up to date if CFM ran the packages and probably reflashed what you had.

Ha ha yes I know the lure. You probably have seen this https://www.nexstarsite.com/Firmware/SkyProdigyFirmware.htm

And yes it does suggest that the HC can be updated. From that site you could contact Michael Swanson and ask him,  from what I can see it then links to the standard upgrade for SSA HC so maybe worth checking CFM settings again and its downloading the correct package?

Im interested to know if the SSA HC is exactly the same, our group are meeting Monday night indoors and someone in it has a Skyprodigy so we will be updating firmware for members kit so will have a closer look at this and let you know.

I'm currently using

Starsense
HC v 01.19.18006
Camera v 01.02.13343

For the OP. My friend did have her Skyprodigy 70 handy and firmware reported on HC was the same as yours.

I tried updating firmware but CFM reports all devices up to date. I considered powering the HC from my friends Evo mount to see whether CFM would update it but then wondered if it did would it still work on the prodigy mount, so with the risk of this I didn't attempt it. Not mine to mess up!

If it's all working for you probably best left alone.
