Wedges and CCD

For planetary work with a webcam, you wont need a wedge.

For Deep Sky objects, I`m not sure where you are getting your "CCD is instant", it most certainly isnt. You still have to take long exposures with a CCD if you want to capture anything worthwhile.

So the answer is yes, if you have a fork mounted telescope, you will need a wedge if you want to do long exposure photography
