Pembrokeshire Road Trip: Day 3 – Carew Castle and Tidal Mill

Recommended Posts

Waking even later after 2 full nights chasing stars, we found yet another clear forecast :(

The Castle at Carew was on our target list and doing a daylight recce it looked really promising.  After talking to a guide they regretted to inform us that due to technical problems the sluice gates were jammed shut and they could not let the water out.  A castle shot across the mud flats would be good, but not as nice as having a full moat!!!

OK this was getting boring, Mars was still looking stunning and the Milky Way was doing its thing.

A single shot, 15mm, ISO 4,000, 30", f2.8

I wanted to try to get the water pouring over the sluice gate, but it was not so easy to get things lined up - there was also a lot of light pollution behind the castle

A horizontal shot, quite happy with this one...

Moving back along the road towards the bridge and dropping down to the edge of the mill pond (back in those damn wellies - see previous beach post)
This is a 3 shot vertical pano

Zooming in this is at 20mm and is a combination of 2 shots, one for the foreground at 60" and one for the sky at 30"

A final shot back at 15mm

Back home for 3:00 it felt like an early night...

You hope a location works, then just occasionally you then get something a bit different, the broken sluice gate kept the water  in, it would not have been the same with mud flats...
