Returning After 20-odd years. Be grateful for advice

Recommended Posts

Hi.

Pretty sure this has been asked before - maybe not for a little while though.

I aim to purchase an Neq6. In a perfect world I'd like to drive this from my Mac (natively) No VMware, Parallels, Bootcamp, Crossover, Virtualbox et al.

I've downloaded INDI, Carte, CCDiel, and PHD2.

Has anyone else tried this route ?  Was it too painful ?  Did you give in and get a windows laptop and be done with it ?

Thanks from a very light polluted Surrey

Collin

I think you'll probably end up with some sort of windows laptop especially if you want to use EQMOD.

I think EQMOD is windows only, but I'm willing to be corrected if I'm wrong.

Refurbished laptops are reasonable and you don't need a very powerful one.

Just don't get a Vista one.

I spent days cleaning up a laptop top prepare it for astrophotography use.

It took much of two days to get microsoft .net framework 4.5.2 installed for Sharpcap.

I then tried to install Ascom framework, and it needs .NET 3.5. Vista comes with 3.0 and its easy to upgrade to 3.5 - as long as you haven't installed a version of 4 first...

As for a Mac, I think the fact you need .Net framework means that you are on a hiding to nothing without windows.
