Great image. The double cluster has very little variation in star colour, unlike other clusters. It's the nature of the beast, consisting mainly of blue-white supergiants. The clusters are also young in astronomical context; about 13 milion years. The stars burn VERY fast and bright through their fuel.

When I imaged this target a few weeks ago, I used PixInsight's photometric colour calibration and Mark Shelley's arcsinh stretch. This combination is a powertool in bringing out star colour, but I still only managed to get oversaturated red stars. I think you've done very well in bringing out star colour.

Hi Wim, everyone

Phew, yeah and thanks for your positive comments. I tried Pixinsight's trial and sometimes dabble in StarTools but I always come back to GIMP's down to earth honesty; if I get it wrong, I've only myself to blame! In the end and certainly for me at least, the final result is almost always dependent upon the clarity of the sky whilst taking light frames.

Cheers, clear skies and Merry Xmas.
