M1, The Crab, 7 hours

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I managed to capture over 7 hours of 20-minute HA exposures on the Crab last night.

The last image was captured at 4:15, 3 hours after it had transited. And all without a meridian flip! I've never been too hung up about meridian flips, especially if it's still guiding OK after 3 hours.

22 x 1200 second exposures, HA filter, Atik 428ex, 200mm f/5 Newtonian. The colour comes from one of my less-sharp HA/OII images which I captured 5 years ago.

Very crisp.  I like it.  But the background seems very black.  Not clipped, but black.  You must have very dark skies!

Chris

Thanks. Yes the background is dark. I was very careful to avoid clipping it, but the dark areas really were dark! I guess it was a result of a combination of the HA filter and good skies, and the first-quarter moon didn't affect it.
