[Repair] Canon 550D [T2i] DC 7.4v Power Supply

Just done a quick repair on a Canon 550D [T2i] DC 7.4v Power Supply ... this is the battery replacement power supply, not the actual battery charger.

What happened to mine was, the cable snapped off, right at the cable restrain by the enclosure (too much bending I suspect and lucky it didn't short out) ... so it had to be stripped down for repair ... it's an easy job, if you're into tinkering and as you can see, just un-solder the old wires, snip off an inch of the existing cable (good practice) then re-solder the newly tinned wires ... I also put a bit of heat-shrink sleeving over the cable, to act as a strain relief, as the original strain relief was moulded into the old cable ... I haven't showed it (as it was an after thought) but I have put a beefy cable tie a centimeter from the knot and on the sleeving, so the cable exit becomes more rigid ...

The repair is a bit shabby but I was in need of using it again for Astro work ... I shall clean up the repair when I get 5mins ... but one of these units for your camera doesn't half save on batteries.

cheers,
Martin

One screw holds the case together ... then a good squeeze and a pull (at all 4 curved corners) should prize it open

De-solder the old wire ... re-solder the newly trimmed and tinned wire

Add heat-shrink (before tying a knot and soldering) for added strain relief ... then cable tie (1cm from knot) to secure further
