I had a quick peek at the big un last night - it was the only object not obscured by clouds.

It was still fairly light and seeing limited magnification to 200x max.

I saw the two central darker bands clearly, and I swear I saw two more bands above and below those. I searched for the GRS but instead made out a dark patch on the NW portion near the edge. I saw this in moments of good seeing and with averted vision. After a few "re-sightings" I finally became convinced that it was real! Could anyone identify it for me?

Also, the Ganymede/Callisto pairing was a great sight. It was like resolving a double star because they were so close (I swear they were closer than in the diagram :scratch:)and there was a neat difference in brightness. Is there any colours to be seen in the Gallilean moons?

very cool, afraid if i'd have seen that barge i'd have been running round shouting aboutred spots etc. afraid i'm a little excitable.

as jumping up at quarter to three couple months ago to go see jup in back yard hmmmm
