Active USB cables

Recommended Posts

These start at 5 metres long, the limit of USB 2.0.

They are available in 5M, 10M,  15M,  20M etc lengths.

My question is,  longer lengths only seem to have an active unit at the end, so how is the data recoverable after travelling so many multiples of the 5M "limit" ?

I bought this one, Deltaco USB 3 active extension cable, 15 m long:

usb3kabel.JPG

While attached to USB3-hub at scope and downloading images from Canon 550D, plate solving, PHD2, EQMOD and focus controlling, I put an SSD disk on scope. I could download and upload files at 50-90 MB/s without disturbing astro tasks. USB2 devices continued to work at USB2 speed and images from cameras were transferred at 20-25 MB/s. The cable has two line amplifiers, one in female socket and one at center. Those amps are powered with 5 volts. I have 5 volts at scope for active USB hub. Picture is showing supplied 220 volts AC adapter, which I don´t use. Cable is about 8 mm thick but still quite flexible.
