Astronomic CLS Clip filter remounting.

Hi all,

Just something slightly interesting for those with clip filters.

I recently had an issue with one of mine where by the tape / masking that holds the filter in place within the clip became damaged and started to peel away. I decided...a little rashly to re-mount it myself within the clip using car windscreen sealant. Astronomic did say that they would have repaired it for me...still it works just fine.

I thought that some people might be interested as I know they make a M48 filter converter for the clip filters.

See: https://www.optcorp.com/adapter-m48-to-astronomik-eos-clip-filter.html

Problem is that moving the clip filter further away from a sensor can cause vignetting issues. I thought that this method might yield slightly improved results without the masking. You need a very steady hand and a make it or break it attitude mind you.

Can you get such a thing as a filter wheel for unmounted 1.25 inch filters?

In any case it also made me think just how much Astronomic are charging extra for what must actually be the same 1.25 inch filter mounted in a piece of laser cut ABS plastic....probably cheaper to produce than a normal 1.25 inch threaded mount. Yet its £81.50 for a 1.25" inch UHC filter and £125.00 for a UHC clip filter....same filter. What a load of mugs us lot are sometimes.

Just a thought...
