after rain storm observing

It depends. Here some summer showers do nothing to clear the air.

However I suppose the ones which leave clear skies behind do leave it better than before.....perhaps there is a more technical meterological term for what type of front clears the air?

Vague answer I know.

Sometimes observing after rain is better.  The rain washes a lot of the junk out of the air.  But after a front passes through, the air transparency can be  good but the seeing bad because  of  turbulence and winds aloft.    DSO's are OK, but planets can look like a boiling mess.     During the warmer month's where I am after a shower is so humid, everything fogs up almost immediately.    My advice is if it's clear after a rain, go for it.  You may be lucky
