bluemaxroe
Can you tell I don't really want to use a premade gearbox?
bluemaxroe
Ok I have had more thoughts. If I have a worm gear turning a 12 tooth cog which in turn...turns the 120 tooth cog that would mean I have 1,536,000 X 10 pulses per revolution. Giving a pulse per second number of 178.26. that should work. Really though...without Dec guiding I really really think the coarseness of my gear ratio is far less important than accurate polar alignment. Do do we agree this gearing should be adequate? John78
The gear ratios for skywatcher mounts are here.... https://www.astroeq.co.uk/tutorials.php?link=/doku/doku.php?id=ratios I use an EQ5 so have 144:1 worm, but I changed to a 1.8deg per step stepper and about 3:1 belt drive reduction and that works fine.
