HELP! bluetooth to eq6 on windows10

My dell venue8 tablet running windows 10 is able to connect direct to the db9 port of the eq6 mount via a serial to ttl cable. It runs via COM3 port. 

Now in a different setup I've plugged an HC06 Bluetooth module (powered from mount via 5v regulator ) into the DB9 port of the eq6. In bluetooth on windows10 on the tablet I'm able to connect to the HC06 which shows com6 (in) and com 7 (out). 

But when I use EQMOD setup to set ports it has a comms failure on com6 and com7.

Any ideas?
