The last 2 edits yes I am Daniel. Credit goes to RAW Therapee, it did it's magic there. Heaps more useful settings in it than my Paint program, will be using it more in the future.

Stopping the lens down could help there and improve star shapes if you found them iffy at the edges

Cheers Happy-Kat, will keep that in mind and it could actually help.

I have the D3200, turn on "Distortion correction" if the d3100 supports it. Also, the lens has very bad effects at the edge unless you stop down slightly (if you're at 18mm try f 5.6, if you're at 55mm try f8)

The D3100 has Auto Distortion Control which was set to OFF, so I've turned it on. It will be interesting to see if this setting does what it's supposed to do with certain lenses, in my case the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 18-35mm f/3.5-5.6G lens, they say it does. Thanks Pipnina.

Very nice to see a view of the Milky Way from Scotland.

Cheers Laudropb. You should do more imaging when you can.
