Anyone using Baader Q Turret?

Recommended Posts

I'm investigating using a Baader Q turret ( http://www.firstlightoptics.com/baader-planetarium/baader-q-turret.html ) for swapping between two planetary cameras -see this posting - http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/249024-idea-for-monocolour-twin-planetary-camera-set-up/

Has anyone got experience of using one of these eyepiece turrets? How solid are they and good is the alignment?

Thanks

Hi Michael - one of the chaps in our local club has one - apparently they're plastic but high quality, strong and well made. His names Pete and his East Midlands Stargazers forum nickname is:

Tweedledee

I'm sure he'd be happy to give you a rundown on the turret - see this thread. :)

Hi

I have one and they are ok, as already said made of plastic but they feel solid enough.

One thing to remember is that you need to align it such that you don't breathe over the other eyepieces, if you don't then when you come to use them they are all misted up. Apart from that it works well enough.

I replaced all the metal set screws on mine with nylon ones so as not to mar eyepiece barrels.  Only oddity is that due to the extra length it adds to the light path, max TFOV 1.25" eyepieces will vignette some and not have a sharp field stop.  So 30-32mm Plossls and the like.  Probably why the AFOV is smaller on the 30mm Plossl that comes set.
