Good Observation Spots in Scotland?

Recommended Posts

Was wondering if anyone from Scotland knows of any good places to take the telescope for a look?  I'm taking my driving test soon and will be getting a car so I can pretty much go wherever I want, just want to find some places where I can get a clear view and have as little street lights etc. as possible.

Cheers! :)

Hi, John.

As above, can you be more specific about your location? Even with a car, 'go wherever I want' isn't that workable.

Dumfries & Galloway provides a world standard 'dark sky site', but driving there from my home town is just not practicable for a grab n' go session.

If you do a little hunt on tinterweb you'll pick up some ideas. There are maps showing areas where light pollution is highest/least - but it would be best to find someplace fairly close to you and reasonably accessible.
