Ok, I've gone away from her unto the beginner's topic for a week or so. Still goit a way to go, and last night was upset by a layer of haze which put a visible halo around Jupiter and a big smudge around the moon I could only (just) make out starts at the zenith - the winter triangle were invisible. I wanted to try out the IR filter I'd been recommended to get and I'm not unhappy with these.

The top one seems to have better colour and the bottom one more detail. I can't seem to find the happy medium yet...
