Orion starshoot all-in-one any good?

Recommended Posts

I have about £300 to spend on new kit and was wondering what the hive mind thinks of the orion starshoot all-in-one. Sky At Night says it is "an excellent all-round package, especially if you are just starting out".

I have a Skywatcher Explorer 150p newtonian on an heq5-pro mount and have been using an unmodded Canon 450D and a phillips sp900 so far. my images can be seen here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/62783243@N07/sets/72157631228040112/. As you can see, I am just starting out really and I don't have a preference for any particular type of shot so really I am looking for a jack-of-all-trades type of thing.

Would this camera be able to improve on my shots?

From chatting to people in the club I get the impression that it is unreasonable for me to expect this to do better than my SLR for deep-sky or my webcam for planetary and that I need to decide which I really want to go for and buy a camera specialised to that kind of target. The club has loaned me a mono Atik deep-sky cooled CCD so I really should give that a go.

I'd be interested in hearing your opinion, as I am in the same boat as you
