Easier if you explain as then in a years time someone may remember what the solution was if someone else gets the same.

I tend to remember odd bits but it means I also need to read them first to have something to recall.

You may not frequent to forum in a year for someone to ask.

I am afraid the classic would be:

Yes someone called Paul had the same problem and found the solution, unfortunately he is not around now and noone knows what the fix was, he didn't say.

Ah...OK, thanks for the advice.

It was operator error on my part. After converting the lat longitude from digital to degrees , minutes ,seconds format, I failed to input the -0 part of the longitude as 000 in the first three digits of the synscan handset. Effectively I put minutes and seconds in instead of degrees and minutes.
