TAL 100r lens cleaning

Recommended Posts

Hi all. can the lens of the tal 100r be removed and cleaned? if so how do I remove it and what to clean it with.

is it something I can do myself or would I be better off having it professionally done?

Many thanks, Doug.

The lens cell can be easily removed from the tube, to give access to the internal facing lens.. x3 screws(the ones nearest the focuser) hold the cell on. If you need to clean the internal surfaces of the 2 lenses, it can and has been recently done by 'Nightfisher'. See his thread for info. Should really only be done if 'really' necessary. ie: mold or fungus developing etc. Some dust in between the two lenses won't affect performance.

I have a simple formula for primary mirror cleaning, can equally be used for cleaning any optical surface.

1, Make cup of tea.

2. Think about cleaning the optics

3. If thirsty goto step 1

If you must clean the optics. mark several points where the lens cell comes out, watch out for any spacer material, this may be as thin as a flimsy ring of very thin polyethelene. Baader wnderfluid is an excellent cleaning medium... Re-assemble making sure in same place,

Good luck.
