There is an article in January 2015s copy of Astronomy Now on 'Imaging for beginners: star trails'.

In the article the author talks about using photoshop (the 'dust and scratches' filter) and some freeware (StarStaX) to remove [reduce] the impact of light pollution.

I've just run some subs I collected the other night and I'm very pleased with the effect. And it was very easy to implement.

It is just over an hours worth of data.
