Tons of stars but no deep sky objects.

I live in Sterling, VA and all the deep sky objects all seem to be here.  lol    I am pretty new to the hobby. The learning curve was quite painful though. I use starsense and love it. Anything I can do to make setup faster make for more imaging time I like. I did have problems with starsense at first because I had a defective unit. Once replaced it is spot on all the time. Often I look at an image and think I am pointing at the wrong place then after a 30 second image I see the nebula right in the middle. Narrowband filters have been the best thing I got. Neighbors lights, city lights, moon,  all doesn't matter.

Being new to this astronomy lark and awaiting decent weather to try out my AP set up can I ask what the grey articfacts are in the shots? Are they a camera issue or lens issue?

I only ask as it will save me asking this question in another thread later if I come across it.

Sorry to hijack the thread.

Regards

Hi

They are just stuff in the imaging train - such as dust on the sensor or the filter. This is the reason for taking flat frames which enables the artifacts to be compensated for during processing.
