Software that automagically crops a particular lunar feature from a large image

Ninox does a good job of finding the few tens of pixels that a planet occupies in a multi-mega-pixel image.

ninox processes a sequence of image files, it's primary objective is to find and centre the dominant object in each frame to make life easier for processing by Registax or other astronomy image-stacking programs.

I want the same done to particular lunar features, craters mainly. You see, I don't think I should be putting 300 6Mp images through Registax...

So far, I've looked into ImageJ plugins (ImageJ is a Java-based image processing system developed and used by microscopists, mainly) but I haven't found the right tool. I am looking for free software in the first place but if you know of a proprietary product that will reliably pick out Gassendi, say, from 300 images, I'd like to hear about it.

What are you using to get the 6MPixel images in the first place?

Have you considered using subframing to reduce the wasted space around the target of interest?

Hello, I am using a Canon Powershot compact. I can reduce the resolution but I don't think there's a facility for subframing like the ToUcam offers.

I am pretty much resolved to writing my own pre-processing package for lunar afocals.
