Hi,

The title says it all, would you bin a 460 for LRGB imaging? have seen some good results with a 383 binned 2x2 but not much from a 460. I also noticed that FLO have dropped the prices of the 460 and 383 by about 7% so it maybe a good time to buy.

Regards,

Sure, it all depends on you focal length and seeing. If you use a long FL then binning everything, including L, would be perfectly sensible. At moderate FL binning just the colour would be fine for most purposes and at short FLs it is best not to bin anything.

FIrst you need to know the finest sampling rate that your sky and guiding will support. If you are very lucky this might be 0.5 arcsecs per pixel, say. In this case you really won't need the colour at this resolution and could harmlessly bin.

If you are imaging at something like 2.5 arcsecs per pixel then binning even the colour will cost you in final quality.

Experimantation with your own setup and sky is really the only way to be sure.
