histogram position for best results in DSO

Recommended Posts

I normally try to get it to 25% away from the black point (Left hand side)
but this drastically reduces my sub times on the target

attatched are screen shots from last night at various sub times
Inc one when I had cloud roll in for a bit just to show how bad the LP gets
anyway from these shots what sub times would give me the best data

also I seem to have quite a bit of "Noise" in my dark frames as you can see from the 60s Dark apture

Try to keep the whole of the histogram spikes within the left 3rd of the histogram graph.

The first frame would give you the best shot at something useful, but I would count that as being overexposed really.

A light pollution filter will help you to get longer exposures to a point, they dont work miracles though.

Your skies look like mine :( That's why I went for a CCD and narrowband imaging.

Cheers

Tim

thanks for the reply
I've been thinking I'm getting better results around the 30 - 60 sec exposures

yeah I get more stars with 90 - 180 but a lot more noise to deal with, bonus is due next week so a Astronomik CLS filter is on order
hopefully it will allow longer times without as much skyglow
