Definitely RAW, do all your colour / white balance / exposure adjustments before converting to TIFF for prints / JPEG or GIF for further processing, i,e stacking etc. Don't forget every time you save an image in JPEG you add artifacts that degrade the image, so do as much as you can before saving, for astro work slightly different factors come into play and I am sure some one will be along soon with info on that.

It is surprising in RAW format, what looks like a total waste of a frame that can be recovered and made to look reasonable.
